Via the Radio 4 blog, what the editor rightly describes as a very lovely thing - Rebecca Dalzell is a New Yorker, writing about going about her life punctuated by the sound of Radio 4.
She perfectly sums us up by saying:
Listen to Radio 4 and the country that emerges is witty and engaging, well-read if parochial, always up for a walk to the pub down the lane. Watch Channel 5 on TV and you see a nation obsessed with home repairs, footballers, and the Botoxed winners of Big Brother. Radio gave me the England I’d gotten to know reading Evelyn Waugh, and that I half-expected to find.
Anil Dash blogs his NYC tourist tips - the basics, the must-sees, what you can skip, and a roundup of other opinions - all conveniently gathered together here.
Oh...and now I am sad. I wish I was in New York!
I love New York. I love libraries. And who could resist the fact that this is a former chocolate factory? Yep, the newest branch of the New York Public Library sure looks gorgeous.
I would make an obligatory bad joke about being like a kid in a sweet shop, but instead you'll find me over in the corner, quietly yearning.
(NB: must stop torturing myself by reading the gothamist. Or not)
I had never seen this sculpture based on the photograph of construction workers eating their lunch high in the air during the Rockefeller Center's construction until yesterday's post in the Gothamist about one of the guys in the sculpture being... stolen.
Wow. I guess if you're going to steal something, make it something BIG.
